CHAMBER HONORS SUCCESSFUL WOMEN
The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of South Florida, headquartered in Miami-Dade County, held its Quarterly Business Luncheon Meeting in honor of “Women’s Month” on March 11, 2009. In addition to its objectives of promoting trade, commerce, business, and tourism between the markets of Puerto Rico and Miami-Dade County, our Chamber has a long tradition of acknowledging and honoring those individuals who, either in their professional work or their personal achievements, have made a difference in our community.
This year’s awards were presented to three professional women – who continue on a daily basis to serve the community through their professional careers:
Sandra Rosa
Sandra Rosa, Chairperson of PROFESA, was honored for her tireless dedication to the growth and rejuvenation of her organization. Sandra has worked to form alliances with other Puerto Rican community organizations and institutions – including our Chamber of Commerce – to work for the empowerment of our Puerto Rican community. Sandra graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and holds a Master’s Degree in Communications.
Honorable Luz Urbaez Weinberg
Since arriving in Florida from Puerto Rico, Commissioner Luz Urbaez Weinberg of the City of Aventura has been an active member of our South Florida community. Having graduated from FIU “magna cum laude” with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Luz has had a varied professional career. On March 1, 2005 she made history by becoming the youngest and the first Hispanic to serve on Aventura’s City commission. Adding to her busy schedule are her memberships in many civic and community organizations.
Honorable Katherine Fernandez Rundle
The final award was given to the event’s Guest Speaker, the Honorable Katherine Fernandez Rundle, who holds the distinction of being the first Hispanic States Attorney in the history of Miami and in the State of Florida. Katherine Fernandez Rundle has dedicated her career to serving the people of Miami-Dade County. Holding an undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and a law degree from Cambridge University in England, she served fifteen years as an assistant State’s Attorney before holding her current position. During her presentation, she spoke about how her office is meeting the challenges presented by current budget cuts, as well as her office’s response to the various law enforcement issues which inevitably arise during economically difficult times, as the present.
All these distinguished women received an enthusiastic welcome from the Chamber’s Luncheon guests, and applause and appreciation for their work in our community. |
